1954 Motorama – The General Motors Motorama was one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated yearly event. The exhibits toured major cities displaying new models and futuristic concepts cars, especially in 1954. Each General Motors division had its own advanced styling studio and the Motorama gave designers an opportunity to show off their new ideas. New idea that would appear on future production models. Chevrolet’s fabulous 1954 Motorama concept cars included the Corvette based Corvette Hardtop, Corvair and Nomad. In 1954 they were the stars of the show. See images below.
General Motors extravagant road shows were held eight times from 1949 to 1961. The term Motorama was applied in 1953 and became a high dollar production. In the 1950s these shows were the responsibility of Spencer Hopkins, who headed General Motors sales division.

Many innovations appearing in Motorama’s came on the market within a year or two of their preview. The Chevrolet Corvette was a concept car when the 1953 Motorama was held in January of 1953. It was so popular at the show that production began in July 1953.
